BACKGROUND
The team of four members, led by Marzura Abdul Malek (member of PenDaPaT), held a three-day workshop session, Jalinan Mesra Project, with Politeknik Murni Sadar, Pematangsiantar, Northern Sumatra, Indonesia, on 19 – 21 January 2018. The workshop was attended by 50 students from various disciplines such as Computer Programming, Accounting, Finance and Banking, and Management programmes.
The main purpose for this project was to share expertise of various communication – related subjects with the students from the rural areas. The workshop sessions conducted were on Public Speaking, Public Relations, Effective Presentation and Intercultural Communication. Other team members from Taylor’s University were Ms. Usha Devi Rajaratnam(Senior Lecturer) and two Mass Communication students, Daniel Cheang and Lim Jun Yang.
The three-day workshop ended with a short but memorable ceremony with the students performing dances from various race groups. The ceremony was also attended by Mr. Calen Chan, Director of Politeknik Murni Sadar and Mr. Victor Siregar, Committee Chairman of Politeknik Murni Sadar.
This is a community project inspired by the existing gap in communication among the ASEAN countries, namely the students of tertiary education level.
